AND TROUBLE IS
New York Bar and Nightclub owners are in an uproar over a proposal that would require a "nightlife license" to stay open after 1 a.m.
Affairs Commissioner Gretchen Dykstra is pushing a plan that
would require a special two-year license for any nightspot with a capacity
of 75 or more where the music would be 90 decibels or higher. A place would be padlocked for up to 10 days after three noise or other license violations, and would have its license revoked if it was "indicted" for any two of the following: homicide, assault, rape or attempted rape, weapons possession, unlicensed sale of liquor,
sale of liquor to minors, overcapacity, disabled sprinkler systems or two Consumer Affairs padlocks. Nightspots would also be slapped with violations for failing to sweep the sidewalk and 18 inches of adjacent street by 6 a.m. the next morning. David Rabin, president of the New York Nightlife Assn. and co-owner of Lotus, says Dykstra's plan would let the city effectively shut bars and nightclubs down at 1 a.m.
"This bill will end up closing New York at 1a.m.," Rabin warned. "It's no longer going to be the city that never sleeps. We're united on this - everyone from the little bars to the biggest nightclubs. The best-run bar in the entire universe could not stay open under the conditions in this proposal."
Please take a moment and go to the link below and send Gretchen Dykstra a
message in regard to this issue:
On behalf of the bands and all the musicians and Luna Lounge, we thank you
very much. Best wishes, Rob Sacher Luna Lounge

"Hey everyone! Just wanted you to check out this Howard Dean website where they remix the freak out speech to a dance beat. Get Down!"
Are you going
to get hitched? It's LEAP YEAR!
Everyone can ask everyone else if they wish to become married this year! Will you make your "significant other" a legal partner?
I saved this letter
for Valentine's Day:
Dear Angela: It seems that everyone is debating the whole issue of Canada legalizing gay marriages. Should the United States do the same thing? My boyfriend and I were thinking of moving to Canada so we can do that. What is your opinion?
--Hot For My Boyfriend in TUCSON
During my research
for POP.SEX, I came across facts and evidence that America is turning away from
marriage. The recent government allocation of funds to refurbish/make-over the
image of marriage by pledging plenty of your tax dollars to this important
mission is jsu grandstanding. A heterosexual concept of marriage is as
shallow-minded as condemning stem cell research, opposing abortion and renigging
on funds pledged to fight HIV/AIDS.
Why are people recusing themselves from the tradition of marriage?
1) Perhaps their
childhood experience of marriage had nothing to recommend it.
2) Perhaps education has revealed the satisfaction of having a vocation and playing that hand to the end.
3) Perhaps, marriage and reproducing is no longer the reason for partnering up.
4) Perhaps economics are more fully understood regarding the expense and gratification of having children.
5) In a culture nurtured to consume; encouraging marriage is endorsing the government policy. Is government policy worth endorsing? How much of it is true? If the government distributes funds to this endeavor, it should distribute equal funds to Gay marriage partners for they have bought into the inconsistency of government policy. They deserve to be rewarded and courted by the republican government--boy, would I enjoy watching that!
I think it's a moot point. In San Francisco they are forging ahead and marrying gay Couples also in Connecticut. Civil unions or marriage are legally binding thus eliminating the hassles of inheritance and benerits~~medical insurance and tax deductions.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYBODY!
